Our take on Over the Alps
Rather than centering a spy story on gadgets or direct combat, Over the Alps presents the mission through written postcards and decisions. Its chapter structure also shifts locations and protagonists, with the final chapter following a contact in 1942 North Africa.
What is Over the Alps?
Over the Alps is a single-player narrative game about espionage in 1930s Switzerland.
Players go undercover, evade police, and send coded reports to a handler through postcards written in invisible ink. Choices shape the story as the agent charms, deceives, or strong-arms people, with branching paths, multiple endings, and secret stamps to find. The game includes two stories with more than 102,000 words and over 2,600 choices, set among Swiss Alpine landscapes inspired by vintage travel posters.
Its third chapter, The Devil's Quill, continues the story in 1942, following Aubrey on a mission in North Africa. That chapter is a browser-based release with 42,000 words and over 1,100 choices, and omits the maps, translations, and animations found in the paid chapters.
