Our take on Outright
Outright shifts some attention from platform traversal to combining acrobatic movement with combat. Its RPG elements are limited to upgrades available between levels, rather than upgrades during a stage; the game also permits play without them, at a significant difficulty increase.
What is Outright?
Outright is a side-scrolling 2D platform game that combines sprite-based action with RPG-style progression.
Its combat system supports close attacks, ranged strikes, parries, and downward stomps. The character can jump, perform a second jump, leap from walls, and dash, with these movement techniques usable alongside attacks. Enemies award points when defeated, and those points buy upgrades between stages. Available improvements raise health and energy limits, provide healing that may be activated or occur passively, and add multiple projectile varieties. Completing the game without purchasing improvements is possible, though the challenge becomes substantially higher.
How Outright plays
- 01Combat moves
- The character can use melee and ranged attacks, parries, and stomps.
- 02Acrobatic movement
- Movement options include double jumps, wall jumps, and dashes in addition to jumps.
- 03Between-level upgrades
- Points from enemies can be spent on health, energy capacity, healing, and projectile options.
- 04Optional upgrades
- Playing without upgrades is possible, though the difficulty increases significantly.
