Our take on Ouroboros
Time travel is the defining structure: events can be manipulated across alternate paths while the familiar rescue quest gradually becomes a mystery about repetition and hidden causes.
What is Ouroboros?
Ouroboros is an RPG adventure set in a cheerful world marked by disturbing signs that the hero's quest has happened before.
The princess-rescue premise and dungeon encounters serve as distractions from investigating the underlying truth. Time travel lets the story move through multiple alternate paths, while newly discovered strategies and techniques replace character-level progression. Combat is fast, and enemies appear visibly so they can be avoided. The game includes more than 5 hours of gameplay, with over 12 scenes and 50 images. Its structure combines role-playing elements with a self-referential story that treats the expected quest as part of a larger mystery.
How Ouroboros plays
- 01Time-based branching
- Events can be altered across several different routes as the story unfolds.
- 02Level-free progression
- New tactics and techniques take the place of character levels and repeated grinding.
- 03Visible enemy encounters
- Enemies appear on the playfield and can be bypassed rather than fought.
- 04Story-focused structure
- The game includes more than 12 scenes and 50 images across over 5 hours of gameplay.
Ouroboros compared to similar games
Ouroboros centers on time travel, branching events, and uncovering a repeated quest's hidden truth, while Ghost of a Tale focuses on exploration, immersion, stealth, disguises, and conversations in an animal-populated medieval world. Vagante presents a dark fantasy adventure built around monsters and dangerous expeditions, and Dungeon Defenders: Awakened combines cooperative action RPG play with tower defense, loot, leveling, pets, and character customization.
