SimulationIs Orbital Racer worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Space-racing fans who want single-player races rather than multiplayer competition
- Players who prefer physics-based spacecraft handling and are willing to manage challenging drifting
- Racing players who want an action mode with missiles and mines instead of simulation-only driving
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a forgiving simulation may find the Newtonian handling and frequent sideways movement demanding.
- Players looking for a broad range of activities beyond racing may find the experience narrowly focused on tracks, race modes, and career progression.
- Players seeking multiplayer racing, since the game is described as single-player.
Our take on Orbital Racer
Its defining choice is the split between arcade-style action races and a simulation mode where Newtonian movement makes drifting a central part of steering.
What is Orbital Racer?
Orbital Racer is a single-player space racing simulator with free movement in six degrees of freedom.
It has two modes. Action mode focuses on fast races, where pilots use speed and powerups such as missiles and mines against opponents. Simulation mode uses Newtonian physics and plausible thruster forces, making ships harder to control and drifting central to cornering. The game includes 8 locations based on real places in the Solar System and 24 tracks. Simulation mode has a playable flight school. There are 3 ship models, each with 3 variants, plus customizable controls and races. A career mode and AI opponents are also included.
How Orbital Racer plays
- 01Two race modes
- Action mode includes missiles and mines, while Simulation mode models Newtonian movement and thruster forces.
- 02Solar System settings
- Races take place across 8 locations based on real Solar System places, including Saturn's rings and an orbital city on Venus.
- 03Track selection
- The game includes 24 tracks.
- 04Simulation flight school
- A playable school teaches the Simulation mode.
- 05Ship variants
- The 3 ship models each have 3 additional variants.
- 06Career mode
- The game includes a career mode alongside customizable races.
