Our take on NUMB
The bounce point comes when the house mystery becomes tied to James’s sleep problems and the boundary between dreams and reality. Players who need clearly explained events may hit a wall once the story begins withholding a stable answer about what James is experiencing.
What is NUMB?
NUMB is a first-person indie horror game about James, a young man who moves into a house in Escondido, California.
The property has a history connected to disturbing events from the 1950s, including Tiffany Johnson’s death by drug overdose and her son’s psychological problems. James also has stress-related sleep problems, which place sleep phases and dreamlike experiences at the center of the story. As events unfold, the game asks whether James is living through a dream or reality. The vendor discusses REM sleep as one phase of sleep, describing it as 20% to 25% of total sleep and noting that normal sleep usually includes 4 to 5 REM periods.
