Our take on Ninja Brigade feat. Jonah Weingarten
Players who expect a straightforward run through levels may hit a wall when progression depends on learning abilities within a Metroidvania structure. The boss encounters add another checkpoint: each region’s major yokai must be defeated before the route forward opens.
What is Ninja Brigade feat. Jonah Weingarten?
Musician Jonah Weingarten is pulled from his own era into an arcade game set in ancient Japan.
To return home, he must make his way through regions including a castle, a forgotten cave, a graveyard forest, a windblown mountain, and hell. This 2D action platformer uses a Metroidvania structure: Jonah learns abilities as he explores and faces new dangers. Demonic energy infects the world and its inhabitants, and Jonah can draw on that energy to unleash his inner oni. Combat pairs ninja speed and agility with oni strength against yokai. Each region has a major yokai guarding the way forward; defeating it lets Jonah take some of its power.
