Our take on 彼岸画廊/Nether Gallery
The interwoven dream-and-reality structure gives the puzzles a setting where familiar surroundings can become strange. That choice trades straightforward presentation for uncertainty, making the game less suited to players who want a clearly defined, ordinary environment.
What is 彼岸画廊/Nether Gallery?
Nether Gallery is a horror puzzle game set across intertwined dreams and reality.
The player takes the role of WuBai, an ordinary employee whose strange dreams become increasingly frightening and begin to affect his consciousness. Its setting draws on contemporary Chinese visual influences and includes the Sanzu no Kawa, a boundary between life and death. Souls that cannot cross the river, called the Lost, wander near it and are drawn to a mysterious gallery on the shore. Blank paintings represent memories connected to souls that have vanished. The game’s puzzles unfold within this dreamlike setting, where familiar surroundings become strange and dreams reveal feelings such as expectation, anger, helplessness, and despair.
