Our take on Necrolance
The two-character structure gives each campaign a distinct emphasis, but it does not provide a broad roster of playable heroes. The retro 2D presentation also favors a compact visual style over modern graphical detail.
What is Necrolance?
Necrolance is a single-player 2D platformer with visuals styled after Game Boy Color games.
The story follows a missing king, a returning necromancer, and two playable characters: the protagonist and Thorg, the necromancer’s knight. The protagonist’s campaign focuses on action, using a lance and one secondary weapon, while Thorg’s campaign is slightly more puzzle-oriented. Enemies can drop secondary weapons, and currency collected during levels can be used to buy upgrades. The game includes seven worlds, three outposts, seven bosses, 12 mini-bosses, checkpoints, dialogue, cut scenes, an overworld map, and Normal and Hard modes. Keyboard controls and sound options can be customized. The game supports windowed or full-screen display and controller play, and includes two additional unlockable color palettes.

Necrolance compared to similar games
Necrolance combines single-player 2D platforming with two character campaigns, weapon drops, currency-funded upgrades, bosses, and mini-bosses. SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER is described as a runner with shooter elements, while Sundered: Eldritch Edition is described as a metroidvania with previous updates and a new update. Their listed structures differ from Necrolance’s world-based platforming adventure.
