Our take on Mugen Sweeper
Rather than keeping Minesweeper on a single fixed grid, the game places boards within boards and uses one-way portal behavior to complicate navigation. It also removes chording, rejecting a familiar shortcut that normally speeds up safe-square clearing.
What is Mugen Sweeper?
Mugen Sweeper reworks Minesweeper around a board that continues to appear within itself as the player zooms inward.
Red and blue portals connect different parts of the board: entering a blue portal leads out through its linked red portal, while zooming into a red portal keeps the player within it. The first clicked square is always safe, but only that square receives this guarantee. Players can select normal mine counts or subtraction-based numbers that account for surrounding flags. The game omits the usual chording system, which would open safe squares after nearby mines are flagged, preserving a higher difficulty level. The board’s nested layout and portal connections alter how mine locations are read and navigated.
How Mugen Sweeper plays
- 01Nested Board Layout
- Zooming inward reveals additional Minesweeper areas within the existing board.
- 02Portal Connections
- Blue portals lead to linked red portals, while zooming into red portals does not send the player through a blue exit.
- 03Two Number Modes
- Normal numbers count nearby mines, while subtraction numbers remove surrounding flagged mines from the displayed count.
- 04Safe Opening Square
- The first clicked square cannot contain a mine, although adjacent squares are not covered by the guarantee.
