Our take on Maiz
Rather than centering combat or character growth, this puzzle game uses a sequence of rooms as its main structure. Progress depends on manipulating beams, blocks, buttons, and physical interactions, with the village story revealed through continued puzzle solving.
What is Maiz?
Maiz is a first-person puzzle game set in a Moroccan village and oasis near the Sahara.
Players solve connected room challenges to progress through the setting and uncover the story of Hajar, who is lost while the villagers face danger from the sun. Puzzles use laser beams and reflections, movable blocks, buttons activated by the player or objects, and physics-based interactions. Completing one room opens access to the next. The game was developed with Unreal Engine 5 and uses Nanite and Lumen technologies for its visual presentation.
How Maiz plays
- 01Laser-Based Puzzles
- Challenges require directing beams through reflective paths to activate parts of the environment.

- 04Physics Challenges
- Some puzzles rely on physical interactions between objects and the environment.
- 05Moroccan Setting
- The story takes place in a village and oasis marking the opening of the Sahara.
