Our take on Magic Paper
Its spell-building focus gives up a simpler combat setup: effectiveness depends on arranging pieces, shaping them at the altar, completing sigils, and managing skill order. Players looking for immediate, fixed abilities may find this structure more involved than a straightforward hack-and-slash system.
What is Magic Paper?
Magic Paper is a hack-and-slash roguelike built around assembling custom magic sets.
Place magic pieces into a magic book to activate spells, then strengthen a spell by adding matching pieces. A magic altar can alter an unwanted piece shape, while completed sigils activate the magic paper’s effects. Sigils can also be exchanged, and skill icons can be rearranged in their slots through drag-and-drop. Dungeon exploration includes distinct monsters and bosses, with a minimap option for returning to previously visited rooms. Goblins offer potions and magic pieces for trade. Gems collected from bosses provide access to Devil Castle, where the final objective is to defeat the Dark Lord.
How Magic Paper plays
- 01Custom Spell Sets
- Magic pieces placed in a magic book create spells, with matching pieces increasing a spell's strength.
- 02Piece Reshaping
- A magic altar changes the form of pieces that do not fit the desired arrangement.
- 03Sigil Effects
- Completing a sigil with magic pieces activates the associated magic paper effect, and sigils can be exchanged.
- 04Dungeon Trading
- Goblins in the dungeons trade potions and magic pieces.
- 05Boss Progression
- Boss gems grant entry to Devil Castle for a confrontation with the Dark Lord.
