Our take on Li'l Red
The defining detail is the movement system: diving onto slopes builds speed, which can feed into long-distance jumps and momentum-preserving follow-up leaps.
What is Li'l Red?
Lyra travels through Florian to bring the Radiant Lily from Marigold Meadows to the kingdom of Clerica.
This retro 2D platformer includes five areas with enemies and bosses. Movement options include running, spin jumping, diving, sliding down slopes, and launching into longer jumps by preserving momentum. Lyra’s harp provides close-range attacks and charged strikes with increased reach and damage. Muse Points let her summon Lepus, Felis, and Columba for ranged attacks, while physical hits restore that resource. The game uses a 1990s LCD-inspired visual palette with 15 color choices. An 8-bit soundtrack accompanies the presentation, and S ranks and faster completion times provide additional targets.
How Li'l Red plays
- 01Momentum Movement
- Slopes, dives, and chained jumps let Lyra gain speed and cover longer distances.
- 02Harp Combat
- Held attacks build energy for a longer-range, higher-damage strike that disappears when Lyra is hit.
- 03Animal Familiars
- Lepus, Felis, and Columba deliver ranged attacks when summoned with Muse Points.
- 04Palette Selection
- Fifteen color schemes alter the game’s LCD-style visual presentation.
- 05Rank Chasing
- S ranks and quicker completion times provide goals beyond reaching the end of an area.
Li'l Red compared to similar games
Li'l Red is a single 2D platforming adventure with five areas, harp-based combat, animal summons, and slope-driven movement. Sonic Origins presents a collection of four classic Sonic games, while SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER focuses on runner-style movement combined with shooting. The listed alternatives do not share Li'l Red’s harp attacks or Muse Point familiar system.
