Our take on Leylines
Its defining structure is a seven-race 4X campaign where every faction has its own technology tree and unit roster, making faction choice shape both development and battlefield options.
What is Leylines?
Leylines is a turn-based 4X strategy game about exploration, expansion, and conquest in a fantasy world.
Players rule one of seven distinct races, each with its own technology tree, and develop their nation by founding cities and commanding more than 180 units, including summons and customizable heroes. Battles involve rival wizards, varied terrain, map structures, and more than 90 spells that can alter units, morale, ships, disguises, and the landscape. Jungle and mountains block most units, while deserts damage them. The game includes local multiplayer through hotseat or splitscreen, a scenario editor, achievements, and Steam trading cards.
How Leylines plays

- Each race has a separate technology tree and its own unit roster rather than shared units with altered statistics.
- 02Large Unit Roster
- The game includes more than 180 units, with summoned creatures and heroes that can be customized.
- 03Spell-Based Warfare
- More than 90 spells can copy enemy units, lower morale, reposition ships, disguise forces, and reshape terrain.
- 04Terrain Tactics
- Jungles and mountains restrict most movement, deserts cause damage, and players can place watchtowers or explosives on the map.
- 05Local Multiplayer
- Multiplayer supports hotseat and splitscreen modes.
- 06Scenario Editor
- A built-in editor allows custom scenarios to be created.
