StrategyIs Last Regiment worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who want card choices combined with simultaneous turn planning
- Groups of up to eight players seeking fantasy multiplayer battles
- Solo players interested in campaigns alongside skirmishes and custom maps
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who need sequential turns may hit a wall when all participants plan and act within the same turn.
- Players seeking a tightly focused competitive format may find the mix of campaigns, skirmishes, multiplayer, and map creation too broad.
- Players looking for a conventional historical army game may not fit the fantasy factions, heroes, monsters, and special powers.
- Players who do not want to assemble forces from cards may bounce at the regiment-building stage.
Our take on Last Regiment
The bounce point arrives during simultaneous turns: players must anticipate opposing commands rather than respond after each action. Card selection adds another decision layer before battle, so anyone seeking a slower, strictly sequential strategy system may stop there.
What is Last Regiment?
Last Regiment combines card play with turn-based strategy in a fantasy setting.
Players choose from ten heroes and factions, then assemble regiments with unit and power cards. Battles unfold on hex-based maps, with simultaneous turns requiring players to read the battlefield and direct their forces. Power cards can call down meteors or lightning, or disable enemy guns and cannons for one turn. The game includes single-player campaigns set in Kothia, computer-controlled skirmishes, and multiplayer for up to eight players. A custom Map Editor supports creating maps and uploading them to the Steam Workshop. The campaign follows characters from Kothia and foreign factions, including Olivia de Roza, through disappearances, conspiracies, and threats from monsters and machines.
