Saves you a refund- Players seeking short, tightly focused matches may find the progression from settlement to empire too broad in scope.
- Players who prefer simple strategy systems may find the combination of resources, research, happiness, unrest, disasters, and government changes demanding.
- Players seeking a strategy game without supernatural or science-fiction scenarios may not want undead uprisings or alien invasions.
- Players looking for a narrowly focused base-defense game may prefer a smaller operational scale.
Our take on Kingdoms Rise and Fall
Its defining structure is the transition from a small Stone Age settlement to a future-era empire, with research, resource control, military expansion, and public happiness continuing across the progression.
What is Kingdoms Rise and Fall?
Kingdoms Rise and Fall combines real-time strategy with grand-strategy systems.
Starting from a Stone Age settlement, players collect materials, grow food, discover technologies, raise structures, and guide a society through successive historical periods and later developments. The game offers close to 30 resources, over 80 structures, and more than 200 land, naval, and airborne military units. National management includes public happiness, commerce, internal unrest, illness, natural calamities, and hostile attacks. Available modes cover survival against barbarians, conflict with the undead, battles against extraterrestrial forces, and a strategy-focused battle royale. Computer-controlled rivals build their nations, pursue research, and improve their forces. One passage specifies multiplayer for as many as 8 participants, while another presents that number as planned support.
