Play it if you…
Good fit- Interactive-fiction readers who want a long, choice-driven story
- Players interested in text-based mech piloting and customization
- Role-players who want faction choices, skills, relationships and fiefdom management
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking visual scenes, animation or sound effects will hit a wall at the entirely text-based presentation.
- Players wanting a short, tightly linear story may find the 250,000-word structure too expansive.
- Players looking for direct-action mech combat rather than narrative choices may not find the format suitable.
Our take on Ironheart
The bounce point arrives for players who need visual or audio feedback: Ironheart presents its war machines, battles and setting through text alone. Players expecting hands-on mech combat may also stop at the interactive-novel format, where equipment and faction decisions are part of the narrative.
What is Ironheart?
Ironheart is a 250,000-word, text-based interactive novel set in an alternate medieval history.
After a space mission sends the protagonist backward through time, the story presents choices about finding the missing crew, supporting the Papacy, Caliphate, or Mongolian Golden Horde, uniting a divided land, or pursuing personal wealth and power. Players can choose a male, female, or non-binary protagonist, with gay, straight, bisexual, or asexual options. The story includes mech equipment, customization and decoration; skills in warfare, diplomacy, medicine and engineering; faction service or independent action; fiefdom management; decisions about governance, construction and recruitment; and encounters with historical figures and other characters.
