Is Inverse Evolver worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Roguelite players who want randomized dungeon runs and changing environments
- Action players who enjoy experimenting with large item combinations
- Players who want a story with branching routes and different endings
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a fixed, repeatable dungeon layout may not fit the randomly generated run structure.
- Players who prefer compact builds may not fit a game centered on retaining effects from hundreds of items.
- Players looking for a climbing-focused or action-puzzle adventure may prefer a different structure than this side-scrolling roguelite.
Our take on Inverse Evolver
The store pitch puts most of its weight on unlimited combinations and hundreds of items. That emphasis can make the side-scrolling format, branching plot, and nine-character roster seem secondary, although each contributes to the game's structure.
What is Inverse Evolver?
Inverse Evolver is a side-scrolling action roguelite centered on repeated dungeon runs.
Each run generates different dungeons, while collected item properties remain active and combine into increasingly unusual builds. The game features hundreds of items and uses their effects together in a system compared with The Binding of Isaac. Players use these combinations in fights against cyborgs, beasts, and bosses. Nine characters are available, each with individual abilities and values. The story follows the last survivor of a crisis caused by reliance on transformation technology. Branching story routes lead to different endings as the player explores the dungeons and decides whether to retain a flesh-and-blood form or accept further transformation.
