Our take on Illwinter's Floorplan Generator
The defining mechanic is terrain adjacency: placing one terrain beside another automatically changes the boundary between them, producing different edges and transitions for settings such as caves and indoor rooms.
What is Illwinter's Floorplan Generator?
Illwinter's Floorplan Generator creates grid-based dungeon and wilderness maps for tabletop roleplaying encounters.
Terrain is placed in squares or along square edges, with adjacent types automatically shaping boundaries, transitions, and shadows. Around 50 terrain types are available, alongside icons for objects such as doors, stairs, furniture, vegetation, and pentagrams. Maps can use color or black-and-white styling, include configurable grids and shadows, and feature random shapes for caves, rivers, and other irregular terrain. The editor can generate random dungeons, import layouts from ASCII text, and create custom rules for random generation. Finished maps can be printed as multi-page PDFs or exported as PNG files, wall data, 3D-style images, or files for further editing.
