Our take on Hex Defense
The description emphasizes changing terrain and enemy entry points, but the core loop remains defending a base through successive waves. Its stated progression is score-based biome unlocking, rather than a campaign structure.
What is Hex Defense?
Hex Defense is a virtual reality tower-defense game played on a tabletop board.
Place turrets on hexagonal tiles, then reposition or upgrade them as new enemy waves open portals at changing locations. Enemies choose a starting point along the board’s edge, and later waves add new spawn portals, creating different routes to defend. The game includes 6 biomes with randomly generated terrain and height variations, 9 turrets, 17 upgrades, and 13 enemy types, including soldiers, tanks, military vehicles, and mechs. A score unlocks the next biome. The objective is to survive for as long as possible.
How Hex Defense plays
- 01Randomized terrain
- Each of the 6 biomes has distinct natural formations and variations in terrain height.
- 02Wave-based enemy routes
- New portals open with each wave, changing the directions from which enemies approach the base.
- 03Turret upgrades
- The 9 available turrets can be upgraded, and defenses can be moved between waves.
Hex Defense compared to similar games
Hex Defense centers on placing and upgrading turrets on a hex-tile board as enemy portals and routes change. Creeper World 4 instead describes building an energy-and-mined-wares economy and assembling forces against fluid-like waves across 3D terrain.
