Our take on GYLT
Its defining structure is the choice between confronting creatures and hiding from them, with distractions offering another way through encounters.
What is GYLT?
GYLT is a narrative adventure set in a melancholic version of Bethelwood, Maine, where fantasy and reality merge and nightmares take physical form.
Players follow Sally, a girl searching for her missing cousin Emily after being pulled into a distorted version of her town. Progress combines puzzles, stealth, action, and exploration. Creatures can be confronted directly or avoided, with distractions created through sound, visual lures, or attracting enemies to another location. The story presents Sally's fears and memories through this surreal setting while players uncover the circumstances behind Emily's disappearance. The soundtrack is by Cris Velasco.
How GYLT plays
- 01Stealth and Combat
- Creatures can be evaded or faced directly as Sally moves through the distorted town.
- 02Enemy Distractions
- Sound, visual decoys, and deliberate attraction can draw creatures away from Sally's path.
- 03Surreal Setting
- A warped version of Bethelwood merges ordinary places with fantasy and nightmare imagery.
- 04Missing Cousin Mystery
- The narrative follows Sally's attempt to discover what happened to Emily.
GYLT compared to similar games
GYLT combines narrative investigation with puzzles, stealth, and creature encounters, while Jusant centers on climbing, stamina management, and exploring routes up a tower. Sundered: Eldritch Edition is a chaotic metroidvania, whereas GYLT follows a more directed mystery set in a distorted town.
