Our take on Gaia
Rather than centering on one fixed campaign structure, Gaia offers three AI storytellers that set different play styles, from a calmer sandbox to unpredictable events. Its survival loop also ties weather, seasons, and personal needs to base operations and exploration.
What is Gaia?
After a crash on Gaia, a treasure hunter must survive while the story develops according to player choices.
Three AI storytellers shape the experience, from rising difficulty to a relaxed sandbox or unpredictable events. Players gather minerals and alien resources, construct modular bases, craft equipment and vehicles, grow and cook food, and manage hunger, thirst, rest, and leisure. Weather, seasons, and the day-night cycle affect survival and building systems: rain can extinguish fires, solar panels stop working at night, and cold can kill crops. Raids, toxic meteorites, fire tornadoes, and other events pose threats. Each new game starts in one of 4 biomes, and underwater exploration requires a submersible to reach deeper areas.
How Gaia plays
- 01AI storytellers
- Three options shape play with escalating challenges, a calmer sandbox, or unpredictable developments.
- 02Weather and seasons
- Rain, wind, temperature, and time of day affect fires, turbines, solar panels, and crops.
- 03Needs management
- Hunger, thirst, rest, leisure, and other personal needs can affect health, speed, and mental health.
- 04Underwater exploration
- A submersible is needed to reach deeper ocean areas where diamonds, gold, and other discoveries may be found.
Gaia compared to similar games
Force of Nature also combines sandbox exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and management, while Gaia adds AI storytellers, needs management, weather-driven systems, and underwater exploration. Survivalist: Invisible Strain is a colony-building survival sim focused on characters and relationships; Gaia instead emphasizes base systems, planetary hazards, and resource exploration.
