Our take on Final Days
The focus on escalating hordes and defensive positioning leaves little room for slower exploration or varied mission pacing. Its wide multiplayer support also centers the experience on surviving the same onslaught, rather than developing a broad single-player campaign.
What is Final Days?
Final Days is a fast-paced twin-stick shooter about surviving waves of zombie-like mutants.
Players can fight alone, join online or LAN sessions, use local split-screen for up to 4 players, or add bots to fill the squad. Combat includes switching ammunition types and using explosives to manage large groups, while movable objects can slow enemies at defensive positions. The game includes three campaigns: Rendezvous, with 7 wave-based maps; Escape, with procedurally generated levels; and Depths, set in an underground bunker. Last Stand offers endless wave survival, while Eradication uses endlessly generated bunker levels with increasing difficulty. Players can also create and share maps, compete on leaderboards, and pursue achievements.
How Final Days plays
- 01Large Enemy Waves
- Battles can place hundreds of mutants on screen at the same time.
- 02Flexible Co-op
- Sessions support solo play, online or LAN multiplayer for up to 16 players, and local split-screen for 4 players.
- 03Squad Bots
- Computer-controlled teammates can fill open places in the group.
- 04Defensive Environments
- Players can move objects around maps to delay advancing enemies.
- 05Procedural Campaigns
- Escape and Eradication generate bunker layouts for repeated runs.
- 06Custom Maps
- Players can make maps for others to play or access maps created by the community.
Final Days compared to similar games
Final Days centers on wave defense against large mutant groups, with solo play, up to 16-player multiplayer, local split-screen, bots, and user-created maps. Abyssus instead presents a multiplayer roguelite adventure through hand-crafted levels, with weapon modifications using ancient technologies. The other listed alternatives focus on climbing, a runner-shooter structure, a third-person shooter, or a metroidvania rather than this horde-survival format.
