Our take on Faraway Qualia
The defining structure is its monster-condition system: battles double as material-gathering tasks, with rewards increasing when several requirements are fulfilled at once.
What is Faraway Qualia?
Faraway Qualia is a turn-based JRPG set in Meltria, where alchemy originated.
Combat assigns objectives to enemies; completing them yields materials, and meeting multiple objectives in one encounter increases the amount collected. These monster-derived resources fuel alchemy, which uses their qualia to produce further materials. Residents then turn those materials into weapons and armor. The story centers on Anisia, an alchemist, and Ruty, an analyst who joins her in a village where people collect forest discards. The demo includes three chapters, roughly 10 hours of play, and save transfer to the full release.
How Faraway Qualia plays
- 01Condition-Based Battles
- Combat rewards meeting requirements attached to individual monsters, with multiple fulfilled requirements producing larger item hauls.
- 02Monster Materials
- Defeated monsters provide the raw ingredients used in the game's alchemy system.
- 03Qualia Alchemy
- Alchemy uses the qualia contained in gathered ingredients to produce other materials.
- 04Villager Processing
- Villagers turn supplied materials into weapons and armor.
- 05Transferable Trial Saves
- Progress from the three-chapter trial can carry over into the full release.
Faraway Qualia compared to similar games
Faraway Qualia centers on turn-based battles that set collection conditions, followed by alchemy and villager processing. Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition focuses on story, characters, and exploration, while Back to the Dawn follows prison survival, investigation, and escape. Tales of Symphonia presents a broader fantasy adventure about two connected worlds rather than an alchemy-and-gathering loop.
