Our take on Extinction
The description emphasizes varied battlefields and says encounters differ, but it gives little detail about how those scenarios change. The clearest modes are the campaign, online score-based Skirmish, and successive-wave Extinction mode.
What is Extinction?
Play as Avil, one of the last Sentinels, and fight Ravenii—giant monsters attacking human settlements—alongside their smaller forces.
The campaign centers on defending cities, rescuing civilians, and defeating opponents. Combat lets Avil move across and up enemies, use a whip to vault into aerial attacks, and target weak points by removing parts of the monsters. Side missions have varied objectives and award upgrades; skill trees let players develop different combat approaches. Environments can be destroyed, and objects in the world can be used during fights.
Skirmish mode lets players make battlefields and compete online for scores. Extinction mode focuses on surviving successive waves of attackers. The Days of Dolorum Season Pass includes the Jackal Invasion, Ravenii Rampage, and Skybound Sentinel DLC.
How Extinction plays
- 01Monster dismemberment
- Avil can remove parts of giant enemies to expose weak points before going for a kill.
- 02Traversal combat
- Wall runs and whip-assisted vaults let Avil move across large foes and launch aerial attacks.
- 03Side missions
- Objectives outside the main campaign award upgrades for use during the campaign.
- 04Online Skirmish
- Players can build battlefields and compete online for the highest score.
- 05Extinction mode
- This mode sets successive waves of ogres and their minions against the player.
