- Players who prefer combat-focused action over traversal, hazards, and platforming
- Players uninterested in replaying stages for collectibles, achievements, or faster times
Our take on Ether
The bounce point arrives when a missed jump or mistimed movement sends Ether back through a difficult section. Players who do not enjoy repeating platforming challenges after failure may stop there, even though retries are unlimited.
What is Ether?
Ether is a 2D platforming adventure about a space mercenary retrieving vital data from an abandoned ship.
Progress runs through four biomes and four short chapters filled with hazards, mutant space bugs, and traversal challenges. Movement includes jumping, wall jumping, dashing, and jetpack use, with precision and timing central to survival. Failed attempts can be retried, allowing repeated practice through difficult sections. Levels contain around a dozen mechanisms, including bumpers, zero-gravity areas, and missile launchers, that alter navigation. The game also includes 40 collectibles, achievements aimed at full completion, and replaying chapters to improve completion times.
How Ether plays
- 01Traversal Abilities
- Jumping, wall jumps, dashes, and jetpack movement provide different ways to cross hazardous sections.
- 02Four Biomes
- The abandoned ship is divided into four environments with their own dangers.
- 03Interactive Mechanisms
- About a dozen devices, such as bumpers, low-gravity areas, and missile launchers, change how levels are navigated.
- 04Collectible Hunting
- Forty collectibles are distributed across the chapters for players pursuing full completion.
- 05Time Replay
- Completed chapters can be replayed to improve recorded times.
Ether compared to similar games
Ether centers on precision 2D platforming across four short chapters, with collectibles, time improvement, and environmental mechanisms. Sundered: Eldritch Edition is described as a chaotic metroidvania, while SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER combines running, jumping, dodging, and shooting in a runner structure.
