Our take on Eschalon: Book III
The open-ended rules and fixed difficulty prioritize exploration and character planning, but sacrifice adaptive challenge. Encounters remain demanding regardless of progression, so character development does not automatically make later play easier.
What is Eschalon: Book III?
Eschalon: Book III concludes the trilogy with mysteries involving the protagonist’s past, the Crux stones, and the Orakur.
It can also be enjoyed without the earlier games. Players explore wilderness and dungeons containing secrets, riddles, traps, treasure, and danger. Character development offers unlimited options, while expanded creature statistics add abilities, defenses, and vulnerabilities that affect combat strategy. New spells and hundreds of items are available to discover. The game includes re-rendered graphics, new spell and environmental effects, updated sound effects, and music. Difficulty does not scale with the character, so progression does not automatically reduce the challenge. Third-party tools can modify the game and create custom maps. The game supports single-player play only.
