Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for combat, enemies, or NPC interactions will find the ship deliberately empty.
- Players who prefer a fixed, linear story may find the multi-playthrough structure and changing events less direct.
- Players seeking fast-paced action may find the isolation-focused ship maintenance and crisis decisions too restrained.
Our take on Endless Dark
The emphasis on a deep narrative and more than 350,000 words can make the game sound like a conventional story adventure. Its central activity is instead solitary ship maintenance under recurring system failures, with no combat, enemies, or NPCs sharing the vessel.
What is Endless Dark?
Endless Dark places a sentient machine called the Custodian aboard a sleeper colony ship with no enemies, combat, or NPCs.
The task is to repair system failures, preserve the vessel, and keep its passengers alive while isolation affects the Custodian’s sanity. Story Mode develops across multiple playthroughs, with choices shaping responses to new revelations. Optional Endless Mode challenges the player to propel the ship as far as possible before losing the passengers, the Custodian’s mind, or both. The game includes over 350,000 words of events, dozens of dilemmas, chassis customization, autosaving after bite-sized turns, and color-vision accessibility options. It supports gamepad-only, keyboard-only, and mouse-and-keyboard controls.
