Is Dwarf Tower worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Fans of turn-based tactics who want tower construction and spellcasting rather than real-time battles
- Players who prefer computer-controlled opponents and want a single-player mode
- Friends seeking multiplayer matches centered on attacking and protecting a shared type of objective
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking squad-based combat or direct control of individual battlefield units may find the tower-centered objectives restrictive.
- Players who prefer low-risk construction may hit a wall when fires, floods, and attacks can destroy the tower over several turns.
- Players looking for a story-driven role-playing experience may find the match-based structure too narrow.
Our take on Dwarf Tower
The bounce point arrives when tower placement becomes the main tactical system: protecting the hidden Archmage's Chamber means balancing height, room functions, and hazards. Players seeking direct unit control or a narrative campaign may lose interest once construction decisions define each match.
What is Dwarf Tower?
Dwarf Tower is a turn-based tactics game about building towers and casting spells.
Each turn, players place blocks, construct rooms, and use magic. Libraries store spells, Crystals generate mana, and Dwarf Dwellings provide dwarves to repair the tower. The hidden Archmage's Chamber is the key target and must be protected; placing it higher makes it more powerful, while a taller tower gains an advantage over a lower one. Lightning can start fires that destroy a tower over several turns, and underground rooms carry a risk of flooding. A match ends when one side's Archmage's Chamber is crushed, burned, or flooded. The game includes single-player matches against the computer and multiplayer matches with friends, alongside pixel-art graphics, animation, and music.
How Dwarf Tower plays
- 01Room-based construction
- Players expand towers by placing blocks and adding rooms with different functions.
- 02Archmage objectives
- A concealed chamber serves as the decisive target, with its height affecting its strength.
- 03Environmental hazards
- Lightning may ignite fires, while underground construction carries a flooding risk.
- 04Single-player mode
- The game includes matches against the computer.
- 05Multiplayer mode
- Players can challenge friends in multiplayer matches.
