Our take on Default Dan
Rather than treating coins, power-ups, hearts, and hazards according to platformer convention, the game reverses their functions. Progress depends on questioning visual cues and learning which apparently helpful objects are dangerous.
What is Default Dan?
Default Dan is an indie platformer built around reversed expectations.
Coins, power-ups, and hearts can destroy Dan, while spikes, enemies, and other hazards provide useful effects. Dan must navigate more than 20 stages across four environments, learning new mechanics as the game progresses, to rescue his abducted friend from a princess and her minions. Each stage supports time-based leaderboards for competition, and 27 Steam Achievements reward specific accomplishments. The game uses visual misdirection and backward-thinking as its central challenge, while an original soundtrack by brentalfloss accompanies the action.
