Our take on [DE:]Fanastasis
Its defining structure is clue-led exploration: hidden routes, residual memories, and scattered information form the main progression, while most ordinary battles remain optional.
What is [DE:]Fanastasis?
This exploration-focused RPG takes place in a ruined kingdom filled with hidden doors, passages, chests, and interconnected dungeons.
The protagonist awakens as a memoryless spirit and searches for four memory orbs while pursuing a resurrection ritual. Residual thoughts left by the dead provide clues, lore, and story fragments that can connect across locations. Regular battles are optional: enemies can be bypassed through dungeon mechanisms, while some bosses may also be avoidable. Exploration provides equipment, companions, and other resources, with no need for repeated grinding. The main story lasts 20–55 hours, followed by an additional 15–30-hour scenario. Decisions produce branching endings, and the game allows every ending to be viewed in one playthrough through separate saves.

- 04Branching Endings

- 05Post-Story Scenario
- A 15–30-hour additional scenario begins after a particular main-story ending.
- 06Exploration Records
- The game maps visited areas, tracks up to 8000 acquired items, and transfers excess items to storage.
[DE:]Fanastasis compared to similar games
Unlike Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition, which centers on exploring a dangerous city and an unconventional story, [DE:]Fanastasis places progression around hidden passages, dungeon mechanisms, and clues from the dead. Back to the Dawn focuses on investigating crime and escaping a maximum-security prison, while [DE:]Fanastasis focuses on recovering memories across a ruined kingdom with optional regular combat.
