Our take on Cyberside Picnic
The variety of formats comes at the cost of a consistent core mechanic. Progression shifts between conversations, text adventures, altered nostalgic games, and minigames rather than building around one repeated style of play.
What is Cyberside Picnic?
Play as a worker responsible for maintaining and evaluating 2ELLIOT, an AI developed by Arteon Corporation for its digital media algorithm.
The game follows conversations with the AI and a partner as a decaying video game library is broken apart and rearranged. Exploration moves through a fragmented cyberspace containing altered nostalgic games and changing text adventures. The narrative investigates the identity behind the algorithm and the shared trauma connected to it. The game includes eight narrative chapters and two minigames, with each section offering different reading, gameplay, and visual experiences. Its structure places multiple games inside one another as part of a connected digital world.
