ActionIs Cubes and Knights worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy dungeon exploration with hidden routes and collectible artifacts
- Action-adventure fans seeking sword combat with parries and enemy-pushing attacks
- Players interested in permanent-death campaigns where each fallen knight is replaced
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a persistent hero may bounce off the permanent-death system, which replaces the knight after a fatal defeat.
- Players wanting combat centered mainly on ranged attacks may hit a wall because melee weapons receive the combat emphasis.
- Players looking for a modern visual presentation may dislike the game's early-3D PC inspiration and software-rendered graphics.
- Players seeking a campaign focused on one unchanged protagonist may find the replacement-knight structure unsuitable.
Our take on Cubes and Knights
The bounce point arrives at character death: losing a knight ends that character's run and transfers the mission to another. Players attached to one continuing hero may stop there, while the replacement-knight structure defines campaign progression.
What is Cubes and Knights?
Cubes and Knights is an action adventure about a royal warrior searching dungeon labyrinths for an immortal necromancer.
Combat focuses on swords, with normal attacks, parries, and moves that push enemies away. Magic staves provide abilities beyond melee weapons. Labyrinths contain secret passages, lost artifacts, elixirs, and rings with unusual effects. Wandering merchants may appear in hidden locations and offer strengthening artifacts for purchase. Death is permanent for the current knight: when one dies, another knight takes up the King's mission. The game uses a software renderer that builds the image through the CPU and draws inspiration from early 3D PC games.
