Our take on Cover Your Eyes
Its focus on a family’s escape gives the horror a personal angle, but that emphasis leaves less room for broad survival-system experimentation. Resource decisions and combat support the journey rather than defining a larger crafting sandbox.
What is Cover Your Eyes?
Cover Your Eyes is a 16-bit survival horror game about Chloe, a mother searching for her missing husband after a supernatural catastrophe transforms the town of Verwood.
She travels with her two children while investigating the disaster and facing monsters and otherworldly forces. Progress combines combat, escape sequences, puzzles, and decisions about when to use limited shotgun ammunition. Players also loot and manage supplies during the journey. The story focuses on family and the sacrifices Chloe makes to keep her children safe. The game asks players to reunite the family, uncover who or what caused the disaster, think through conundrums, and keep watch for the house cat as Verwood changes.
How Cover Your Eyes plays
- 01Family-centered story
- Chloe takes her two children into Verwood while searching for their missing father.
- 02Supply management
- Loot gathered during the journey must be managed as the family moves through the town.
- 03Selective combat
- Players decide when to fight because shotgun cartridges may be useful later.
- 04Mystery investigation
- The journey involves discovering who or what is behind the disaster.
- 05Puzzle obstacles
- Progress includes thinking through conundrums alongside combat and escape.
Cover Your Eyes compared to similar games
Unlike Unplagued, which supports teams of up to 4 companions and uses procedurally generated medieval villages, Cover Your Eyes follows Chloe and her two children through Verwood during a supernatural catastrophe. Unplagued centers on purging plague and collecting ingredients, while this game combines family-focused investigation, supply management, puzzles, and selective combat.
