Is Convoy worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Roguelike players who want real-time vehicle battles instead of turn-based encounters
- Strategy fans who enjoy making choices across randomized events and faction conflicts
- Players who accept permanent death and want to customize combat vehicles between encounters
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking persistent progression may bounce off when permanent death ends a run.
- Players who prefer predictable missions may find the randomized events, objectives, and consequences too variable.
- Players looking for direct character combat may not want a convoy-focused game built around vehicle chases.
- Players seeking a relaxed pace may struggle with fights that take place in high-speed real-time pursuits.
Our take on Convoy
The bounce point arrives when a run ends permanently after a fatal mistake. Players who want to learn through repeated retries with retained progress may also hit a wall when randomized events and shifting faction consequences reshape each play-through.
What is Convoy?
Convoy is a pixel-art tactical roguelike-like set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
A convoy of combat vehicles travels across the planet to collect parts for a damaged spaceship. Radio signals trigger randomized encounters that may become real-time tactical fights, text events, or chance-based role-play situations. Vehicle units can receive upgrades, weapons, and abilities, while choices influence objectives, events, consequences, and the balance between three competing factions. Combat takes place during high-speed car chases, requiring unit positioning and ability use. Raiders, privateers, and other enemies threaten the convoy and its cargo. Each play-through uses a different combination of events and objectives, and permanent death ends the run.
How Convoy plays
- 01Real-Time Vehicle Combat
- Fights unfold during fast car chases, with positioning and abilities determining how units operate.
- 02Randomized Encounters
- Radio signals produce changing objectives, events, decisions, and consequences across play-throughs.
- 03Customizable Units
- Combat vehicles can receive different weapons, abilities, and upgrades to suit a chosen setup.
- 04Faction Conflict
- Actions affect the balance among three factions, each of which can become a threat as it gains strength.
- 05Permanent Death
- A fatal mistake ends the current run rather than returning the convoy to play.
Convoy compared to similar games
Convoy combines randomized wasteland travel, real-time vehicle combat, convoy protection, and permanent death. Quasimorph also uses high-stakes roguelike runs, but centers on corporate contracts and keeping extracted items after successful missions. The other listed alternatives describe cooperative tower defense, sandbox crafting, or open-universe RPG play rather than Convoy's convoy-based tactical structure.
