Our take on Cloudrift
Rather than placing players on a fixed arcade arena, Cloudrift makes the ground itself shift and adds falling items that can alter the play space. Its score challenges and local matches center on staying aloft, with no campaign structure described.
What is Cloudrift?
Cloudrift is an arcade game about staying on a constantly changing cloud without falling off.
The cloud is procedurally generated, and items drop from above; many alter the cloud or affect the players. It has three modes: a single-player score challenge, a local co-op challenge for two players, and local player-versus-player matches played over multiple rounds. In the head-to-head mode, players can try to knock an opponent off the cloud or collect items and points to build their position. The desktop version supports local multiplayer, while the virtual reality version is single-player only. Score challenges use Steam leaderboards. The game uses colourful cloud visuals and includes no visible geese.
How Cloudrift plays
- 01Procedural cloud
- The playing surface shifts during a run, and its layout is generated procedurally.
- 02Falling items
- Items can change the cloud or affect the players.
- 03Local multiplayer
- Two players can team up for a score challenge or face each other across multiple rounds.
- 04Steam leaderboards
- Solo and team challenges compare scores through Steam.
- 05VR mode
- The virtual reality version supports single-player play, unlike the desktop version's local multiplayer.
