Our take on Clockwork Owl
The coin-pushing mechanic gives combat a physical, board-based rhythm, but it also confines the main action to managing cogs in the trough. Permadeath adds stakes to that focused loop, while making each run less forgiving.
What is Clockwork Owl?
Clockwork Owl combines turn-based battles with coin-pushing physics.
Send cogs over the edge of a clocktower trough to attack forest creatures as the owl travels up a tree. Random encounters add cogs to a deck that serves as the owl’s defense, while shops offer items and upgrades. Different cogs have distinct effects: bombs blast cogs from the board, health cogs restore health when they fall, and big cogs strike all enemies. Special cogs can reset the trough, double damage from cogs knocked off for 3 seconds, or award coins. The journey uses permadeath, so the owl’s progress is at stake during each run. Its story follows an owl protecting clocktowers from forest creatures trying to stop time.
