Our take on Citadelic
Each wave begins with a chance to expand the base, while enemy evolution and randomized post-wave rewards make the next defense depend on the choices made during that run.
What is Citadelic?
Citadelic is a base-building strategy game with roguelite runs.
At the start of each wave, expand the base and prepare defenses around the main fortress. Enemies evolve, and intel reveals details about incoming attackers so defenses can target their weaknesses. Defeating enemies and constructing ore mines provide ore for buildings, repairs, and upgrades; production facilities generate tech points. After each wave, choose one of five random rewards, such as augments, temporary effects, or resource shipments. Augments can be installed on structures, and skills can be used during battles and improved with ore. Runs vary, and surviving more waves earns experience to unlock base types. Optional modifiers trade an advantage for a disadvantage, while harder difficulty modes change enemy evolution.
How Citadelic plays
- 01Enemy intelligence
- Incoming attackers have characteristics that can guide the placement of defenses against their weaknesses.
- 02Random wave rewards
- After each wave, select one of five options, including augments, temporary effects, and resource shipments.
- 03Resource production
- Ore comes from defeated enemies and mines, while factories, laboratories, and science facilities generate tech points.
- 04Run modifiers
- Optional modifiers pair an advantage with a disadvantage, changing the conditions of a run.
Citadelic compared to similar games
Like Creeper World 4, Citadelic centers on building an economic base and resisting waves of enemies; Citadelic adds randomized post-wave rewards and evolving attackers countered using enemy intel. Tooth and Tail also combines base building with combat, but focuses on leading an army and includes single-player and online competitive play, as well as split-screen and replays.
