Our take on Cat Souls
Its defining mechanic is the use of some past lives as platforms, turning Ruby’s limited supply of lives into part of the level layout and movement challenge.
What is Cat Souls?
Cat Souls is a 2D platform game starring Ruby, a cat trying to rescue her friend and recover the Hourglass of Time.
Players move through 45 levels across six worlds, jumping over hazards, avoiding enemies, activating levers, and collecting keys to reach each level’s endpoint. Ruby has seven lives, and spikes remove one life when hit. A central mechanic lets some of Ruby’s past souls serve as platforms, making the use of lives part of level progression. The game presents its stages with pixel art and combines platforming with obstacle navigation and key-based objectives.
How Cat Souls plays
- 01Past-soul platforms
- Some of Ruby’s former lives can remain in the level as surfaces for later movement.
- 02Level objectives
- Progress requires navigating hazards, operating levers, and finding keys before reaching the endpoint.
- 03Six game worlds
- The 45 stages are arranged across six distinct worlds.
- 04Seven lives
- Ruby can lose lives to hazards, with spikes removing one life per hit.
Cat Souls compared to similar games
