Our take on Cards of Divinity

Rather than centering strategy on armies or battlefield positioning, the game makes deck construction the main route to conquest. Five deity powers, changing hero rosters, expiring heroes, and inherited legacies replace the fixed-unit structure common to many strategy games.

What is Cards of Divinity?

Cards of Divinity is a strategy game about building and modifying a deck of heroes from Greek mythology, along with spells and enhancements.

Players choose one of five deities, each with a distinct power, then use card combinations to conquer realms and face rival gods. Between conquered realms, the Blind Poet offers opportunities to alter the deck with new cards. Heroes have a golden lotus that loses petals over time; when the final petal falls, that hero dies, while the hero’s legacy strengthens later characters. The game also includes an online leaderboard, classical artwork associated with painters such as John Waterhouse and Frederic Leighton, and a token economy to manage during play.

04Hero Legacy System

05Online Leaderboard

Shogun Showdown also combines deck building with combat, but it focuses on turn-based positioning, attack tiles, skill upgrades, and a roguelike structure. Cards of Divinity instead uses mythological heroes, spells, enhancements, deity powers, realm conquest, and an online leaderboard. Men of War: Assault Squad centers on commanding military units in World War II battles, rather than modifying a deck of cards.
