Our take on Calcu-Late
The stage format keeps the game focused on a repeated puzzle-then-battle rhythm, but that structure leaves less room for open-ended exploration or activities outside the tournament sequence.
What is Calcu-Late?
Calcu-Late tells of James, who joins a divine Olympic contest as Seshat’s chosen mathematics representative.
Before proceedings start, each entrant declares a wish for the event to fulfill. Progression is divided into stages: each presents a puzzle, while narrative scenes connect the sections. Within every stage, a trial asks players to work out a problem through reasoning or arithmetic, followed by an AI-controlled match. These encounters call for focus and patience. Progress is saved automatically during each stage, and an unsuccessful puzzle can be revisited through the continue option. Blazing Fanfish created the game, with Back To Basics Gaming handling publication.
