Our take on BoxCat
The store page foregrounds the cat-and-box premise and several box effects, but gives little detail about the wider adventure structure. The concrete focus is platforming through hazards while changing boxes to use their different properties.
What is BoxCat?
BoxCat is an action platformer following a cat through a realm built from boxes.
The aim is to reach the Goal Box while dealing with creatures and environmental hazards. Level progression uses boxes that can be worn or removed, each with its own behavior. Leaving a box behind after a jump grants a second jump, and a box may break if a monster is positioned beneath it. Sticky varieties support wall climbing, whereas TNT variants blast the surrounding terrain. Additional box types provide other effects for navigating stages. The game combines this platforming structure with an adventure narrative about the cat’s journey. A later update introduced controller support.
How BoxCat plays
- 01Box-based platforming
- Putting on and removing boxes changes the abilities available during level progression.
- 02Distinct box effects
- Sticky boxes enable wall climbing, while TNT boxes destroy areas around them.
- 03Double-jump mechanic
- Removing a box after jumping allows the cat to jump again.
- 04Controller support
- Controller support was added in a game update.
