Our take on Bleeding Deities
The defining structure is a nonlinear tribal world where each defeated deity grants an equipable power that opens new combat options and previously unreachable areas.
What is Bleeding Deities?
Bleeding Deities is a 2D side-scrolling adventure set across Maya-inspired tribes, temples, caves, and swamps.
The story follows Canek’s search for captured brothers while the Teot tribe conducts human sacrifices. Players navigate nonlinear areas, find hidden passages, decipher codes, solve puzzles, and face enemies inspired by ancient warriors. Temple guardians provide keys leading to deity battles; defeating a deity grants an equipable power that adds combat abilities and opens previously inaccessible areas. Each tribe has its own atmosphere and mechanics, with increasingly complex environments. The game uses hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animation and spoken dialogue performed in a living Mayan language.

Bleeding Deities compared to similar games
Sundered: Eldritch Edition is also a side-scrolling action exploration game, but its description identifies it as a chaotic metroidvania, while Bleeding Deities centers on Maya-inspired tribes, deity battles, puzzles, and story secrets. Jusant focuses on climbing tools, stamina management, and routes up a tower rather than deity powers and temple-based progression.
