- Players looking for a purely combat-focused RPG may not want its social relationships, exploration, and decision-driven quests.
Our take on Beyond Mankind: The Awakening
The game trades simplicity for layered survival management. Character development, social ties, difficult choices, resource gathering, shelter construction, and psychological monitoring all compete for attention alongside exploration and combat.
What is Beyond Mankind: The Awakening?
This post-apocalyptic RPG takes place in 2121, during the final stages of a nuclear winter.
Players create a character through DNA and cultural choices, then join H. O. P. E. , an elite unit working to reclaim Earth for humanity's off-world survivors. Exploration begins beneath the ruins of Avalon on Santa Catalina and leads through a frozen landscape populated by evolving megafauna. The game combines combat, secondary quests, social relationships, and decisions that can produce difficult outcomes. Survival activities include gathering or hunting food, crafting tools, making fires for cooking and warmth, building shelter, and monitoring psychological state. A limited-capacity 3D inventory requires resource selection at camp, while experience grants access to further character abilities.
