Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking forgiving combat may hit a wall when recoil control, terrain reading, and tactical decisions determine survival.
- Players wanting frequent checkpoints may bounce off the rule that prevents saving during an active mission.
- Players looking for a large campaign may find the base 10–15-hour first playthrough limited in scope.
- Players seeking multiplayer shooting will not find that focus in this lone-agent campaign.
Our take on Beyond Enemy Lines
The bounce point arrives when a failed operation must be restarted from the beginning. Without saves during missions, players who prefer frequent checkpoints will face the game's central demand for patience, route planning, recoil control, and careful movement under enemy detection pressure.
What is Beyond Enemy Lines?
Play as a lone special agent tasked with reclaiming a satellite carrying nuclear missiles from Soviet separatists.
Missions allow multiple approaches, including silent infiltration, distraction, knife attacks, suppressed weapons, or direct assaults with rifles and shotguns. Enemies patrol, communicate, coordinate, and respond to threats through an independent AI system. Movement and actions generate different noise levels, making sound management part of infiltration. The campaign contains eight missions and two standalone missions, with an average first playthrough of 10–15 hours. The Operation: Arctic Hawk DLC adds four missions, while three additional standalone missions were released free. Missions cannot be saved while underway, and the game is built around repeated attempts, route selection, tactical choices, and weapon control without aim assistance.
How Beyond Enemy Lines plays
- 01Multiple Infiltration Routes
- Open mission layouts support numerous paths toward each objective, using equipment and terrain to determine the approach.
- 02Reactive Enemy Behavior
- Opponents can communicate, coordinate, change tactics, and pursue threats rather than following fixed behavior.
- 03Noise-Based Stealth
- Movement and other actions produce varying sound levels that can alert nearby enemies.
- 04No Mid-Mission Saves
- A mission must be completed in one run because saving is unavailable during an operation.
- 05Extended Mission Content
- The base campaign includes eight missions and two standalone operations, with additional missions available through DLC and free releases.
