Our take on Beat Invaders
Rather than treating music as background, the game ties enemy movement and firing rates to each track's tempo. It also replaces a fixed shoot-'em-up progression with runs, selectable upgrades, persistent ship development, and route modifiers.
What is Beat Invaders?
A space-themed vertical shoot-'em-up roguelite built around repeated runs.
Players choose from three pilots and ship classes, then fight enemy waves, protect freighters, defeat bosses, and survive special events. The current music track sets the pace: ship movement, enemy movement, and firing rates follow each song's tempo. During a run, level-ups offer upgrades that can be combined into different builds. Between runs, earned points unlock ship classes, weapons, convoy equipment, and permanent subsystem improvements; upgrades can also be reset and redistributed. Route Effects modify runs, while mini-events, boosters, and event waves add changing challenges. Modes include Normal, Hyper Mode, Speedrun, Lone Wolf, Weeklies, and Dailies, as well as a lower-difficulty mode, with online leaderboards.
