Our take on BastionOS
The tower’s destruction is part of the progression structure rather than a simple failure state. Its fall leads into another round of fortification and research, replacing a conventional defense format with a cycle of collapse and rebuilding.
What is BastionOS?
BastionOS is an incremental game about defending a tower from a machine army.
Players select a level, aim the tower’s artillery at incoming enemies, and collect resources dropped during combat. The tower eventually falls, then rises with additional weapons and upgrades. Research unlocks new technology for later attempts. The horde continues to evolve as the defense cycle repeats, with the tower and its weapons research program serving as humanity’s last line of defense.
How BastionOS plays
- 01Artillery targeting
- Each level involves directing the tower’s guns toward approaching enemies.
- 02Resource collection
- Destroyed enemies can leave resources for the player to collect.
- 03Tower fortification
- Weapons and upgrades can be added when the tower rises again.
- 04Technology research
- Research provides access to new technology as the defense continues.
- 05Evolving horde
- The machine army grows into a threat that may eventually overwhelm the defense.
BastionOS compared to similar games
BastionOS centers on aiming a tower’s artillery, collecting resources from defeated enemies, and rebuilding the tower after it falls. Astro Prospector instead uses a survivors-like roguelite format built around a ship, 21 days of survival, weapons, upgrades, and new enemies. Creeper World 4 focuses on expanding an economic base and fighting fluid enemy waves across 3D terrain.
