Our take on Back:Fade
Players uneasy with supernatural horror may bounce off at the first frightening investigation, while those who do not retain clues may hit a wall when later choices depend on gathered evidence. The final trust decision also requires accepting consequential narrative branching.
What is Back:Fade?
Back: Fade is a full-motion live-action horror game and the second entry in the Back series.
Ren Xing wakes in a hospital after escaping the first Otherworld, then is drawn into another strange realm with other characters. The group must uncover this place’s rules, survive its dangers, and find a way out. Gameplay combines evidence-gathering sections with searches, clue retention, and decisions made during dangerous situations. Choices influence the story, and different decisions lead to different conclusions. The game follows a series of investigations and adventures before a final life-or-death decision involving whom to trust.
