Our take on Avernum 4: Greed and Glory
The store pitch stresses the enormous setting, hundreds of artifacts, and broad choice systems, but gives less space to the remaster’s specific additions. The result is a clear sense of scale without much detail on how the expanded story and new content differ from the 2005 original.
What is Avernum 4: Greed and Glory?
Explore Avernum, an underground nation of caverns, mines, and labyrinths, in a turn-based fantasy RPG.
The adventure combines dungeon exploration, quests, battles against varied foes, and party development. More than 100 abilities, traits, spells, and other progression options support different party builds. Multiple factions seek support, allowing political choices that can lead toward peace or profit. The world includes its own lore, history, humor, characters, and locations rather than relying on standard elves-and-orcs fantasy. Hundreds of artifacts can be collected, created, or blessed. This remaster of the 2005 game begins the Great Trials Trilogy, adds story content, and includes new dungeons, characters, and quests. Earlier Avernum games are not required.

Avernum 4: Greed and Glory compared to similar games
Avernum 4 focuses on turn-based fantasy exploration across an underground nation, with party development, artifact work, quests, and faction politics. Back to the Dawn instead centers on investigating, surviving, and escaping a maximum-security prison, while Hard West presents a Wild West setting rather than Avernum’s fantasy underworld. Dungeon Defenders: Awakened combines action RPG play with cooperative tower defense, unlike Avernum 4’s turn-based adventure structure.
