Is Astral Terra worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Sandbox players who want to reshape terrain and construct their own buildings
- RPG fans who prefer choosing skills and abilities without a fixed character archetype
- Small groups seeking cooperative exploration and building for up to 10 players
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly directed story campaign may find the open-ended world structure diffuse
- Players wanting deep combat or advanced skill systems may find the current mechanics basic
- Players looking for a finished feature set may not want a game with additional systems planned
Our take on Astral Terra
The focus on terrain editing and player-built worlds comes with a lighter current emphasis on combat depth. Basic fighting and spell casting are present, while more advanced combat and skill systems are planned rather than available now.
What is Astral Terra?
Astral Terra is a fantasy sandbox game set in a procedurally generated voxel world that can be reshaped and built upon.
Players take the role of a Planar Warden, choose one of three races, and develop skills through combat, harvesting, and exploration. The world includes four starting biomes, caves, wildlife, water systems, day and night cycles, resource gathering, crafting, housing, mounts, and basic spell casting. Terrain tools can add or remove land and alter textures, while construction uses different shapes, materials, and prefabs. Play is available offline in single-player mode or online with up to 10 players in a room. Online worlds can be public, password protected, or private.
How Astral Terra plays
- 01Terrain Editing
- A magic cube tool changes land and surface textures without requiring gathered materials.
- 02Procedural Worlds
- New games generate terrain from seeds, with four biomes available in the starting plane.
- 03Character Progression
- Experience from combat, harvesting, and exploration contributes to skill choices and character attributes.
- 04Crafting And Combat
- Resource gathering, combat drops, and mining provide materials for weapons and other items, alongside basic spells.
- 05Online Multiplayer
- Cloud-hosted rooms support up to 10 players and can be set to public, password protected, or private.
- 06Offline Single-Player
- A solo mode allows play without an online connection.
Astral Terra compared to similar games
Astral Terra combines procedural terrain editing, player-built housing, character progression, and online rooms for up to 10 players. Mr. Prepper centers on preparing for nuclear war by constructing an underground shelter and crafting within an authoritarian-survival setting, rather than reshaping a generated fantasy world.
