Our take on ARIDA: Backland's Awakening
Its survival systems require attention to food, water, tools, and supplies, leaving less room for a purely story-focused experience. The single-player structure also keeps the journey centered on Cícera rather than shared play.
What is ARIDA: Backland's Awakening?
ARIDA: Backland's Awakening is a single-player survival adventure set in the Brazilian backlands during the nineteenth century.
Players guide Cícera through drought-affected regions, gathering resources and managing hunger and thirst. A machete and hoe support tasks such as obtaining water, opening paths, and cutting corn; grindstones maintain these tools. Crafting uses recipes based on local fauna and flora. Cícera can ask village elders for help and complete their quests to obtain food and water. Exploration also reveals collectible lost objects and stories about the region’s legends. The game begins a three-part account of Cícera’s journey through the backlands.
